The Exposition, Chapter One

The novel begins with a short explanation that Dana and Kevin are moving in a new place and shortly after, when the are placing books in shelves, she start feeling dizzy, then she is in a completely different place and she sees a boy drowning.

The author really gets your attention in the prologue because he starts by saying that Dana lost an arm after her last trip because she got stuck in a wall and that the police are blaming Kevin for it. Dana was also trying to tell the police that it was an accident and that Kevin had nothing to do with it but she did not want to explain what really happened and she says later that it was because she knew they would not believe her. But why?

The first few pages of the first chapter are really intriguing and make you want to read more because you do not know what is going on and why Dana is suddenly in a totally different place. You immediately start to wonder if she teleported or time traveled. You also want to know how she time traveled or how she teleported.

The author has chosen to explore a conflict between the main character and his environment and also some conflicts with other characters. The first and principle conflict is mainly that Dana does not know what is happening to her, where she went, what was going on over there and who were these people. She is also in conflict with other characters like Kevin and the woman near the river. With Kevin, she argues with him over what happened. Kevin doesn't really believe her and the fact that she does not understand him was not helping him at all. With the woman on the side of the water, it is more about the fact that she thinks that Dana is killing the child but in reality Dana is trying her best to save him. Basically, they do not go along so well.

I think I can identify with the main conflict which is between the main character and his environment because it has already happened to me to not really understand what was going on around me. For example, I sometimes fall asleep in the middle of a class and when I wake up I cannot tell what is going on or where the theory is at.

  1. Excellent observation regarding the different types of conflict, Gabriel! I think that this blog post is complete and meets with the requirements.

Here are a few elements to review:
    - Capitalize your title
    - Review use of commas
    - Wrong pronoun for the author: because he start by saying
    - Subject-verb agreement (he start): because he start by saying
    - who is 'she'? she lost an arm after her last travel
    - word choice (travel): she lost an arm after her last travel
    - verb tense: Dana is also trying to tell them
    - pronoun, who is 'them'? Dana is also trying to tell them
    - run-on sentence/reformulate, as this sentence is not clear: Dana is also trying to tell them that it was an accident and Kevin had nothing to do with it but doesn't want to explain what really happened and she says later that it was because she knew they would not believe her but why.
    - who is 'she'?: on and why she is suddenly in a totally different place
    - word choice (wandering): You immediately start wandering
    - reformulate: know which it is and how she did it. - which one it is and how she did it.
    - spelling (as) - author as chosen
    - reformulate: She also goes in a conflict with other characters - she is also in conflict with...
    - word choice (here): Kevin doesn't really believe here
    - verb tense: understand is not helping him at all
    - reformulate this last part of your sentence: Dana is trying her best to save him they do not go along so well.
    - remove 'myself': I think I can identify myself with the main conflict
